Meet the Pattersons

We met in 2008 and almost instantly bonded over a love of documentaries and being terrible bowlers. By the end of the year we were living together, he had turned me into a science fiction nerd and I (Ashleigh) had managed to make him spend most of the summer outside. We got married in 2010, two years and two days after the day we met (alas, March 4th wasn't a Saturday!). A year later our son Miles was born and amazes us every day with just how quickly small children change and grow.

Ashleigh

This is the part of the website where I say brilliant things like 'I'm a family photographer'. Obviously I'm passionate about photography and art - but my background is really in working with kids. I play guitar, drums and bass and have been known to paint my shoes bright colours. I'm often silly and get out a lot of my energy by running. I've lived in Hamilton my whole life and love the 'renaissance' this city is seeing with art and great local businesses supported by the community. You'll see a lot of this in my blog!

I love to get outside and believe that you are never too old to play. After spending years working with children at summer camps and in schools I am so glad that I can continue that with natural family photography. I am a huge Doctor Who fan and love cycling and event planning.

Jonathon

Like me, Jonathon is also a big nerd and when he's not working a million hours a week he can be found having fun in our vegetable garden, doing graphic design work, riding his bike and playing with our son Miles. He has worked with people for years in businesses small and large focusing on clients and loves meeting new families. He doesn't get Doctor Who at all, but can't get enough of Sherlock (seriously if you haven't seen it, check it out).

Miles

We were warned that our whole lives would change when Miles was born but I didn't realize how much they would keep changing every single day (and I'm not just talking about diapers)! It's amazing how fast he went from being a wrinkly little nine pound thing to a toddler with an actual personality of his own. He loves pasta, cuddling, They Might Be Giants and trying to turn off my computer. I can't wait until he's talking and can tell me all about his favourite things!

Interesting Facts

• Jonathon and I both have a tendency to climb trees, jump up on chairs, and lay down in less than normal places to get a picture we want.

• On our first date we went bowling, then watched a documentary about garbage and Ashleigh was so horrified that Jonathon had never seen Rocky Horror Picture Show that she made him watch that too! We've been together almost every day since.

• Our dream is to own a farm where in addition to growing tasty food we have a ton of outdoor space for family photo sessions and a renovated barn to host weddings.

• We are vegetarian and have signed up to run Tough Mudder this year!

• We both have a passion for sustainability. This means reducing our footprint by eating local, recycling and exploring alternate forms of transportation.

Your kids are growing and changing quickly too and it's easy to forget the little details about who they were. We would love to be the people who help you hold onto those memories.
